Garry Barker Award

At Bury Town Community Football Club, we often talk about our fantastic league wins, memorable cup finals, and growing player numbers across our mixed, girls, women’s, and disability pathways. But behind every training session, matchday kickoff, and community event lies the heartbeat of our club: our volunteers.

As a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, our club relies entirely on the passion, time, and selflessness of our community. With a record-breaking network of 95 registered volunteers supporting over 400 players, recognising their extraordinary contributions is more important than ever.

The Garry Barker Trophy

A special highlight of our season is the award of the Garry Barker Trophy. Voted for by members and reviewed by the trustees, this prestigious award honours an individual who has made an outstanding above-and-beyond contribution to Bury Town Community FC.

The trophy is named in memory of the late Garry Barker who previously ran the youth set up at the club and was well known by many families in the area.

Recent Winner: Will Nichols was proudly awarded the Garry Barker Trophy in recognition of his exceptional commitment and impact within the club (alongside previous recipient Tom Lockwood, whose remarkable work with our girls’ teams).
The trophy stands as a tribute to hard work, community spirit, and the relentless drive to create a positive environment for all of our young players.

Celebrating Long Service

Alongside the Garry Barker Trophy, the club has introduced long-service recognition awards to celebrate milestone commitments from individuals who have displayed incredible dedication and loyalty to Bury Town over the years.

Whether coaching on frosty weekend mornings, managing team administration, maintaining our venues, or helping secure vital sponsorships and grants, our volunteers embody the true core values of our club: Inclusion, Development, Ambition, and Respect.
